Tunnels-Are drilled using this Machine

A  tunnel boring machine  ( TBM ) , also known as a "mole", is a machine used to excavate  tunnels  with a circular cross section through a variety of soil and  rock strata . They may also be used for  microtunneling . They can  bore  through anything from hard rock to  sand . Tunnel diameters can range from a metre (done with micro-TBMs) to 19.25 metres to date. Tunnels of less than a metre or so in diameter are typically done using  trenchless construction  methods or  horizontal directional drilling  rather than TBMs. Hard Rock Tunnel Boring Machine In hard rock, either shielded or open-type TBMs can be used. All types of hard rock TBMs excavate rock using disc cutters mounted in the cutter head. The disc cutters create compressive stress fractures in the rock, causing it to chip away from the rock in front of the machine, called the tunnel face. The excavated rock, known as muck, is transferred through openings in the cutter head to a belt conveyor, where it runs th

Must Read Messages on Engineers day

1. I wish to all the engineers durability of granite, strength of M-60, Foresight of theodolite, Accuracy of Total Station, Success of STAAD and all loads are transfered successfully to columns, let almighty pre-stress U for all types of Unforced loads. HAPPY ENGINEERS DAY. 2. Everybody says Engineering is so easy that it it just like walking in a park But only Engineers know that park is called Jurassic Park. HAPPY ENGINEERS DAY. 3. You can be a Doctor and Save lives. You can be a Lawyer and defend lives. You can be a Soldier and protect lives. But Why to play with others lives? So we simply became engineers to screw up our own lives. HAPPY ENGINEERS DAY. 4. We design, We construct, We Observe, We initiate, We drive, We move, We accelerate the World, We are the gears of Progress, we are the future of the nation, we are the Engineers, and I am proud to be an Engineer. HAPPY ENGINEERS DAY. 5. Someone asked an engineer, Why you feel proud of being an engineer? He smiled and tol

world's highest and longest tunnel-to-tunnel bridge is here

The Aizhai Bridge The  Aizhai Bridge  is a suspension bridge on the G65 Baotou–Maoming Expressway near Jishou, Hunan, China. With a main span of 1,146 metres (3,760 ft) and a deck height of 336 metres (1,102 ft), as of 2013, it is the seventh-highest bridge in the world and the world's fifteenth-longest suspension bridge. Of the world's 400 or so highest bridges, none has a main span as long as Aizhai. It is also the world's highest and longest tunnel-to-tunnel bridge.  The bridge contains 1888 lights to increase visibility at night. Construction on the Aizhai Bridge began in October 2007 and was completed by the end of 2011, ahead of schedule. The bridge was temporarily opened to pedestrians during the 2012 Spring Festiva and was formally opened to traffic in March 2012. The bridge was built with the assistance of a $208 million loan from the Asian Development Bank; the total project cost was $610 million, which included 64 kilometres (40 mi) of exp

world's longest cable-stayed bridge-Russky Island, Russia

1. The bridge to Russky Island is the world's longest cable-stayed bridge, with a 1104 m long central span. 2. The bridge also has the second highest pylons after the Millau Viaduct and the longest cable stays. 3. The design of the bridge crossing has been determined on the basis of two primary factors: Shortest coast-to-coast distance in the bridge crossing location 1460 m. Navigable channel depth is up to 50 m. The locality of the bridge crossing construction site is characterized by severe climate conditions: temperatures vary from -31 °C to 37 °C; storms bring winds of up to 36 m/s and waves of up to 6 m in height; and ice formations in winter can be up to 70 cm thick. World's Largest Building-New century global center

1. New century global center is the worlds largest building in terms of Floor are which comes to around 18,000,000 Sq ft. Which is a multipurpose building located at Chengdu, China The centrepiece of the building is a water park ("Paradise Island Water Park"), containing a 5,000 m 2  (54,000 sq ft) artificial beach, where a giant 150 by 40 m (490 by 130 ft) screen forms the horizon to offer sunrises and sunsets. At night, a stage extends out over the pool for concerts. A stand has been built overlooking the pool with a food court and entrance underneath at the floor level. The new  Intercontinental Hotel  will feature 1,009 rooms that are spread over 6x8 story blocks around the edge of the complex.

Phoenix International Media Centre.

Phoenix International Media Center locates in the southwest corner of Chaoyang Park; the site area is 1.8 hectares. The total floor area of the building is 65,000m2 with a height of 55m.   The continuous integrity and the smooth surface of the building express the topological corporate culture of the Phoenix Media. The elevation difference between the southern and northern internal spaces are able to provide quality of sunlight, ventilation and landscape view to the office towers, meanwhile avoiding glare and noises for the broadcasting room. In addition, the elevation difference also avoids blocking the sunshine to the residential building at the northern direction.   In addition, energy-saving and low-carbon concepts are also applied in the building design. Instead of setting drain pipe on the smooth surface, the rainwater will be collected by dropping naturally along the structural ribs into the collection tank which locates at the bottom of the building.
